some mornings
even after good sleep
my head feels as heavy
as a field of stone
the space a good woman leaves behind her
is a pair of hard shoes to fill
some guys go the "sacred to the memory of" route
and build monuments
some go into permanent mourning
others do what they have always done
knowing that they still have to breathe & eat
and so play the hand they've been dealt
as best they are able
for the good of all concerned
knowing the hold
and the fold
play on
claudia cardinale?
i can't believe she didn't come to mind
damn getting old
jam on
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

i just scattered the atoms
of a jam into cyberspace ...
a touch on a wrong key was all it took
been one of those days
dense & hollow
truth & impossibility just everywhere
no shine of affirmation tonight
& i could use some of that
right now
jam on

moving down to the Oneida lake country
what am I saying!
it's only about 35 miles from here
a crow fly
a frog plop
can't touch the past is all I ever discovered
no matter where the road goes
it don't go back
so time can't be linear
if it was you'd be able
to go both ways
or sideways
I don't even think we are moving
we are standing still
& the days blow thru us
& we get confused
best thing for that is
to flush the toilet until it all becomes clear
that shit just don't disappear
it all goes somewhere

Day of the Dead
alters to the ancestors
in the graveyards of the mind
gesticulations of the living
the snap of fingers
a toss of the head
hair in the wind
Death jogs to keep in shape
wearing an orange weave beanie
gloves
heavy sweatshirt
boots
because it's November
not July
he takes a quick glance
to the watch on his wrist
i wanted to ask him about that
but quickly had a better thought
