to the long goodbye
life goes on

from time to time
I put forth an effort
to stare existence in the face
and put my angst on hold
for a moment
and just breathe
as close to a practice I have
except for cigars, tequila and studio eight

enough to make a believer
in that mighty smitey G d of my parents
enough to make a zenjudist out of me

my decades of effort and five bucks could buy a cup of coffee
maybe I still have time enough to buy two cups of coffee

as the clock counts down
I seem more aware
of each little ache and pain...
am I become that whiny old man
boasting how bad his gall bladder is?
or am I just paying close attention
to the all the new rattles and squeaks
of this old jalopy
in hopes of staving off
a major breakdown?

I no longer wish to be happy
because I think Camus is right
i would like to be aware
of what is happening
moment to moment molecule to molecule
because the young have such mordant curiosity about old age

I been looking at my old man legs
trying to remember which side of my body is running on empty
St Jack wanted out of it
them forlorn old rags of age
were just too depressing I suppose
It is a pity he did not save the booze to comfort him in his decrepitude.

I been exerting all my effort into becoming an alcoholic two days a week
jam jam I say
lettuce jam
hammer hammer 8)

Sometimes we adults are just like teens.
You know I know you know what that means.
Angst angst angst. Thanks for the angst!
Some of us were vagabonds as teenagers.
Some of us were English majors.
Angst angst angst. Thanks for the angst!
Some were both, some are still
Some of us never will get our fill
Of angst angst angst! Thanks for the angst!

Aw hell, I should speak for myself.
I don't have a published book on the shelf.
Boy am I pissed about all of this.
The world is a mess and nobody's free.
I can't even afford to buy a degree.

All I can say to this world is thanks!
Thanks a lot for the angst angst angst.

:P

ancient angst breeds religions
death is so inconvenient
somebody had to think of a way to deal with it

breathing out is easy
but breathing in is killing me
my chakras need Cuban cigars and vodka
