harlequin forest

Post by Doreen Peri »

somehow
when forests
bow their branched
heads down like a
prayer, there is a
harlequin air to
the scenario,

a diamond-shaped
multi-colored prism
show, a masked,
yet unmasked autumn
leaf left shown in
tight light halos
circling an october
moon

somehow
not too near or
soon, i hear the
mellow echo of an
owl

who....hooo... who...
hooo... who... hooo

such a fulfilled tune
such a harmonious tone

it is autumn again and again
i am alone
nothing new
other than the dropping
leaves colored and patterned
with a rhythm like
a metronome!

there is something about the falling leaves and the explosion of colors that makes one introspective, that time of year to evaluate what has come and gone, and brace for winter.....there is a definite tinge of sadness in this poem, but the beauty that precedes the climax makes it almost sound OK.....I like it.......the contrasts of living.........
the death of empathy is the birth of barbarism

Thank you, my friends. I wrote this during the "Fall Retreat Word Jam" at Perdida's site, Algonquin's Table.

Stop on by when you have a moment. The jam goes on until Oct 31st.
