a flood of birthdays
an anniversary
just a calendar day
just a sudden jolt
a simple september day
so very heaped with noise

September 8
grand old uncle that I am
my little rock and roller
sleeping nights at the hospital
with his daughter

noisy nights
I imagine Proust spening the night in a modern hospital

saturday slowly rolling
time for contemplating fragments
under the sun
dishes, dust, papers, clothes, books, music & money
thinking something else
doing another thing

wind chill, clear night,
stars peak through
tree branches.
saw a squirrel the
size of a cat today,
scurrying up the bark,
across the branch, over
the roof to the other side
where he hides his
nest in the eaves.

scratch scratch on wall board
he tries to break in 'cause what's
the sin in wanting to stay warm?

soon winter will be born,
but first the autumn moon
and here i am, my time spent
wondering where the summer went.

clock switchover
an hour falls into my life

off today and downtown,
sipping ethiopian harrar
at the aroma cafe'
sitting in the front window
watching the morning slip away while
behind me some loud suit
is pontificating to some
smooth-faced acolyte about
crop insurance, the stock market,
two sore thumbs flinging
broken glass down the shotgun
length of the aroma cafe'.
hunched over their morning money
neither took notice of
the short dresses sailing
pretty girls down the sidewalk, or
the sweet face dreaming in the stroller.
but time is money, and the view never
changes if you're not the lead dog,
dawg, and so off they go at last,
walking and talking right past this poem.
this is still a free country,
and you can bring your dog
into the aroma cafe'.

There are no stars in heaven tonight only cold autumn blue fading to pale yellow then pink.
Sunset.
Jetstream cuts a slice
Through
Camomile flowers pale in in the dimming twilight
The pond's water fall trickles in my lonely ear.
A bat circles flits overhead
A goldfish sparkles in dusks' dark water
I sit in shamatha
Lidded eyes
Mind is only mind.......

home again
returned from family jamming
our last one for summer
before kid treks back to college again

dawn's breaking
cool here
enjoying the views

morning continues to creep into this new day
my coffee and S8
keeping me company
while the others sleep in
this last time
before tomorrow's mad dash

coffee, a delusion these days
i wish and i hope
but it's never enough

desert path
clouds part for sunblast
my bike through dunes

jet lag persists
planet takes her sweet time
i wait in the shade

no jet to lag
nor bike to ride
watching henry & june
seeking tibet
where's that magic carpet
when you need it?

long, frustrating situations
hoping for a rabbit hole
finding mama earth

She takes her index finger and draws a smiley face into my office window,
i look thru its hollow cheeks to see outside the trees are huddling together,
holding their breath,
the weeping willow on the corner of the lot is trying to lie under the bushes along the fence and he doesn't fit well.
You think all that hair would keep him warm but it’s starting to fall out.
Every year you get to be young again, born again,
every year to grow older, and trade days for nights and muscles for stiffness,
dreams for voices, stories-
mannequins for flesh
little crazed ruffians who carry our names around their hearts-- see i can still be hopeful

Overheated
Flushed cheeks not necessarily by the sun
I jumped into the water to stay in peace
Yogatastic meditation on the leaves
changing in color as much as his fake tattoos

We know it is fall when the mountains turn into yellow and red
And the trees roar into sleep
It is so pretty the tourists say as they go back into the city
And we sleep through the fall and winter as the snow will climb to three feet high
But until then we wait

I wait for him to return from his war of memory
And sleep in the arms of love brought on by the sea
The present then a memory

Hopefully for many more seasons to renew our friendship
It is the best that was gifted to me
Familiar strangers we all walked on the same one earth
