On the Porch

How can I tell her
I’m not an appropriate
comforter for her?

The air cool and sharp
with startling sureness, she drew
back against me.

Brrr, she shivered
and burrowed herself
into my jacket.

Above, infinity;
down here, an eternity,
stiff as the yard art.
