The Copy Cat

Post by happytrails » May 10th, 2011, 8:17 pm

running around looking for a topic
can't find one cause i'm myopic
so, i can cheat cause I know how
find one that's already written now

who said what, oh, i see
i think I'll take that one for me
change it just a little bit
no one'll notice cause they're all nitwits

there i've done it and mine's the best
cause i'm so much better than all the rest
look over here, pay some attention
i'm trying to teach you my own invention

i call this writing, poetry
and it is perfect symmetry
i'm the expert resident
one day i'll be president

i'll get up on stage and speak
all your attention i will seek
and if you refuse to kiss my ass
i'll refuse to let you pass

i'll call out the army and marines
make you all quake in your jeans
i'll make sure your train's derailed
and that is how you'll know "you failed"

ha. that's one way to get it done.

this topic-poaching you speak of... i came close to it with john mcphee's geology material in some chapters i wrote in the last year or two. the jumping mountain story was too good to pass up. but of course, you just know i put my unique literary spin on it, so it's cool...

the older the earth gets the harder originality becomes...someone must have done this....I often wonder where some of poems come from...did I read about something like this a couple of years ago, did my imagination just dream it up, am I channeling the dead...so many possibilities that may not be known....themes upon themes....the variations that will hopefully be unique enough that someone won't cry "foul!"........nicely done
If you do not change your direction
you may end up where you are heading
