we are all in this together

take care of the little guys
some nuts for a squirrel
a bowl of milk for the kitty
a slice of bread, a crumb or two
and the sparrows will fly
and sing a song in your honor
winter is coming - they need us now
they need a friend, a helping hand
you may even save a life
do not forget this simple truth
we are all in this together

indeed, doreen. i meant the poem to be straightforward (what it says is what it is), but it certainly can apply to the domestic economic situation. times are tough - we have to look out for one another.

hmmm I wasn't even thinking of economically or hard times or anything like that when I used that analogy in my comment. I was just thinking of people needing each other... for companionship, for friendship, for caring, for listening. We're all "the little guys" because even human beings are squirrels and kittens and sparrows, yanno?

I know you didn't intend that analogy or metaphor but that's how it hit me when I read it. Everybody needs other people in so many ways.

To me, good poetry has levels of meaning and can have different meanings to different readers and even different meanings to the same reader when read on a different day. Hope that makes sense. I like a poem that brings analogies and metaphors to my mind.... even when its intention is simple and straight forward.
