i guess it kinda makes sense
when you sink down in the recliner
that a cello could reach down deeper
even into a soul

so i surrendered to the etude's ability
to extract tears
from the ducts that had dried up long ago
in the swirling arid dust of denial

that fucking cello
what license did it possess
how did this beautiful hunk of wood
acquire this mystic authority to mine for buried pain

an ore as toxic as any heart can find,
then tangle it up in its strings
and ratchet it up to the surface
of waiting light

that god damned cello
that reckless accidental surgeon.....
this seemingly random scalpel
that still makes house calls
