keeping it alive
arriving on time
speaking by the fence -
old man in a wheelchair
sitting in a doorway
looks out towards the plaza
where the people walk
who put him in that doorway
did he get there by himself?
the grass & the sky meet in mind
there's a man sitting up on the hill
he has a hand on the top of his head
to hold it on
to hold it on
cause there's a woman singing in his brain
& she's moving all around
and playing her piano
black face by the marble columns
black birds in the sky
little girl with chalk in her hand
making marks on the sidewalk
and the sea just watches the sun go by
graffiti on the wall
man running in the fog
people gathered around in knots
we're the only ones here
we'll be the only ones leaving
keeping it alive
keeping it alive
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.
Re: keeping it alive
You’ve heard of “extended metaphor”? Well, this is extended imagery and vivid imagery at that.
This is heartbreaking in all of its radiant vividity.
Wondrously written.
Thanks for the reminder.
To friendship,
Michael
