riding the rails

saw a petal float down from it's stem
at the very top of the vase, it caromed
off a still living purple flower, kissed it
as it went on by

landed on the oak table of my sun porch
as I sipped my honeyed chamomile tea
hands warmed around by favorite mug,
I knew I had a privileged view of a station....

along the tracks of life
the death of empathy is the birth of barbarism
