when I left
the lions were still in the woods
& the birds yet in the trees
when I came back
the lions had turned to stone
& cast stone shadows
the birds had also stopped moving
some in the trees
others in midair
it was that way for the longest time
then you died
that was when the birds everywhere
completely disappeared

I almost forgot about the time I turned to marble
I would hardly notice that I am a thing called alive
if not for pure poetry

when the birds disappear it's a sign to seek them out. life is dismal without them.
