Puny Poem
by SooZen

Would like to write a poem today
but it seems there is never time
my emails pile up like cordwood
the dogs always want something
cards and letters need attending
something good needs cooking
responses are expected on FB
house needs dusting and cleaning
blood sugar wants feeding
because health needs a priority
friends need helping or advice
something on the tube needs watching
birds and plants need attending
son wants new art supplies
and presents need wrapping
Sunday is a day most rest
but I must be wicked… it seems
and this puny poem is all you get

(Okay, if I understand the mission of this forum, it's to rewrite your post in my own words with my own spin?)

so little time
to sculpt words
when there are
webs to be surfed
vids to be watched
wiki treasure hunts
and a dog
who's always on the wrong side
of the door
a laundry hamper
full of yesterday's tees
an equation
in search of solution
a new trail to hike
or maybe
just an old favorite
ah, such bounty
of ripe fruit
begging to be picked
like the brambles out front
heavy with berries
nodding in the breeze
so today I graze
I pluck and feast
tomorrow I will write
perhaps

.
.

tomorrow I will write
perhaps

no . . . tonight . . .

yes . . . and no perhaps . . .

tonight, amidst a room filled with rocs and boulders and coiling snakes
or just stories of them on the AM radio

tonight . . . yes . . . no perhaps.

while the hours molder and the rakes folded and the AM stories on the room's noise machine . . .

tonight . . . and tomorrow . . . no perhaps . . .

Never time, never enough,
always this and that and the other stuff
to do and just like you, we need to eat,
and so we do. We cook and cook and cook
some more, 'cause there's always someone
to feed at our door.

Never time, never enough,
always this and that and the other stuff
to do. Pets are thirsty, so are gardens
and who will water them if it isn't us?

Never time, never enough.
Never time, never enough.

Everyone needs something, it seems,
and it's tough because even in our dreams,
yeah, even on Sundays there's never a rest
but bless-ed be those who can laugh and jest
since laughter's an art, smiling's an act
and we all need both as a matter of fact,

but there's never time,
never enough, always this and that and the other stuff
to do and just like you, we continue to... as well.

Oh, what the hell? This poem's not short but it's surely small.
And there's not enough time to make it tall.

while waiting for your poem today,
soon as I can focus,
I check emails
I check neighbour cats, under my bike
in the herb-tire
a passion-fruit ripens
facebook makes me cry, again
more dust, I lift a finger
hungry again
where's my blood pressure?
A new cry for help
that or my favourite movie
those dogs – are they warning?
better to go buy tehina
to clean away old wrapping paper
today, this day of rest
and still, where are you
this non-poem, as I wait

while waiting for the sun to shine
I got lost in cyber space
bicycle is
the poetry of motion
who has time enough for poetry
or the gift
thank god for poetic license
I can even call this a poem
or a jam
i have not emailed her in weeks
dang me they ought to take a rope and hang me
she is so lonely
