poet hiker

Post by saw »

I've taken to writing

deep in the woods

I put a small pad
in my first aid kit

just as essential I feel
as gauze and antiseptic

just as necessary
to heal the wounds of any man

and...a good boulder
is like a wanderer's throne

and the pen is like a buck knife...
and the wisdom is a courtesy

of mother's forest,
and the sunlight is filtered

with the love of trees
and I am the poet hiker

one man
that has chosen to sit still for awhile

one man
a minority to an indigenous population

no one special
a wandering reporter among the vines
the death of empathy is the birth of barbarism

Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

Walk a mile, write a verse! Repeat!

What could be better?

I always carry a small notepad & a pen in my camera bag - haiku and photography are really one and the same, I never know which medium will be most appropriate to capture a moment...
