Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

the dog knows
past this house
the pavement ends
and the leash comes off
"wait" I say
but he cannot
he edges forward
as if
he were already free

The dog that cares for me
Sleeps st my feet
Guards my. bedroom door
Looks at me with those brown eyes
Melts my heart

All that hardened in me
In bitterness
In black ice

Got put away
Taken away
But the real deal
The dog smells the direction
Aligns with distraction
Tames shadows early
Light begins
reason is over rated, as is logic and common sense-i much prefer the passions of a crazy old woman, cats and dogs and jungle foliage- tropic rain-and a defined sense of who brings the stars up at night and the sun up in the morning---

a dog will never pretend to be glad to see you
no head games
just tug, chase, keep away, tussle,
and maybe a quiet cuddle
