day of gratitude
all of the smiles gather round
nourishment to go

sixty nine years ago
this same day of the month
along came me

she counts
each number a welcome guest
her endless party

it is very cold
at this moment
colder by dawn

the big chill
even in the temperate mid atlantic
real deal

need more kindling
off into the woods
nary a soul to be seen

and the city is supremely safe
nothing like an arctic blast
to keep the criminals away

[one of those jerks]

haiku can not lie (5)
he is a jerk when he is stoned (8)
