Pass the Absinthe

Post by mtmynd »

~-Pass the Absinthe-~

the dark waters of decadence
bathe the mind with grief,
with loss, with emptiness,
pounding at the chest
with the precision of a
jackhammer in the hands
of a lovelorn cowboy
singing songs to coyotes
howling under a moonlit night,
the cacti in bloom
those fragrant white flowers
that light up the plant
from their luminescence,
calm! overriding the waves
of emotional hurricanes,
the buttressed fort of futility
finally falls from forces
of father time...

If you've been out to those Spanish church ruins in New Mexico, then you have an idea of buttressed forts of futility of which you speak, eroding faster than the rock they were built on (and from).

Descriptive poem. It's a painting. Lots of alliteration at the end.

Note: Absinthe makes the heart grow fonder.
