To My Son

Post by Lightning Rod »

the flute works because it is hollow
and the heart only works by means of empty spaces
music works by virtue of silence

the space you left in my heart
allows it to beat a sad perpetual tattoo
a pulse of longing and remembrance.

the chambers are empty and wishing for you
you were a child then and void of experience
what is taken away is as blessed as what is given.

you were ripped from my loins
in a moment of lust and promise, I swallowed
the flute works only because it is hollow.

Stunning imagery, LR.
A song to the child/man.

Very Nice

Lightning Rod,

This poem is simply lovely. It does what I think poetry
should do.

I think you could eliminate the last strophe, though, and
not lose too much.

Thank you for a delightful read.

thank you WIRED and Sierra

and Brian, I am holding a copy of you great book in my hand right now. I highly recommend The Singing of the Wheels.

Welcome to StudioEight. I hope to see you here often with your poetic sense and your critical eye.
