From My Window

Foxglove fantasies
digitalis death dreams
the butterflies and the bees
dancing in a lazy breeze
as I think about my disease
digging just to dig the beauty
all around me,
only I can see
the stinger on the bee
and the butterfly is never free
death reigns it in.

death the only enevitable end. Just a thought--do you know of the powder on the butterflies wings, if it is brushed away it cannot fly and thus parishes? Not sure where I got that, and not sure why I thought of it.

"...the butterfly is never free
death reigns it in. "

Death reigns in it.

What you have done
is what I like to see
The tragedy of life
A brutal nectar

While watching from my window, I've
enjoyed their open, airy hive,
their bustled business buttressed by
a flower-columned earth and sky

and I've believed these bees are good—
my light, my flight, my neighborhood.
This troupe, its dance around its queen:
in this my own religion's seen

as I would worship one like me;
my god's a man, their queen's a bee.
And should their stingers pierce me through,
remind me: I've a stinger too

and whom I'd love is close to me
with eyes that search me knowingly,
who knows my danger as I see
the stinger on my neighbor bee.
