I finally figured it out. The right wing in shadow I miss-saw as part of the neck. I was so sure I was looking at a crane not a gull.

today´s photo strongly remaind me my travel to Península de Valdés (Chubut province) in 1993!!!!!!!!!! I hope the lobos and elefantes marinos are still there!!!!!!!!

Today's photo (not yet documented in a smaller size) is in Fitzgerald Marine Reserve in California (I believe, near San Fransisco). It was taken by illustrator Diane Thornton.

I have a few more banners with her photos. Will post them soon.
