Crazy Sonnet

Welcome to my basket case
I don't think it's contagious
insanity is not communicative
it's just outrageous

I was going to write an epic poem tonight
then I realized that the night was over at twelve
and then the morning starts
like a vague remembrance of yesterday

I'm not really insane, I'm just misunderstood
I though I could, I thought I could
like a little engine remembering
childhood comes before insanity

Once I imagined myself

poetry can't pay the rent
words are recyclable
and if you're smart, you put
all of the ones which relate
in a similar basket

to throw away value
is insane

that is, unless
there is no other way
to separate the breathing
from asthmatic rasps
