man, I gotta GO and get some
automatic transmission fluid
then I have to come BACK
or at least I HOPE to come back
thats not a certainty
ever
so here's to all the sweet loving girls
I've ever known
those that i never want to see again
and those I'd like to see at least
once more 'cause I believe the good stuff
deserves a final florish
a little upswing
a hey and a holler
a last jazz riff that
touches all the keys
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

I'm gonna spray my old nineteen & eighty one chrysler cordoba
flat black then write on it in white paint -
"Posted! Indian Land! Keep Out! For Sale!
& across the lip of the trunk lid "Bombs Away Dream Babies"
& on the front of its l-o-n-g l-o-n-g nose "Jam This!"
I'll drive it to Baltimore or Bust
I'll drive it to Utah for some hot Mormon squeeze
o burn me down to ash baby, and
let the wind do the rest o i love you like
a legless man in his hoveround
spinning circles in the red dust of Mars
o the truckdriver with a bow in his hair
hauls a load of prime toads to the
Arizona state fair - one toad says to another one there
anasazi me please while i comb out my hair
and space shuttle my bones where buffalo roam
and the clouds are not sky all day
where the homeless change water to bread
then walk on it crossing over to adult comic book heaven
("hey, fellas, how am I doin?")
Satan's left hand man lives in upstate new york
he says his apartment is easy to find
its the only one with wind chimes
hanging outside the door
I almost bought his car from him
but one look at all the books he had
of self improvement, motivation & inspiration
gave me time - a last moment to change my mind
I just said thank you no & out the door & if
I'd had a pole I woulda gone fishing just then
but I had just a car that I jumped in where
the goin' is easy & clean & clear 'round the bend
and we carry no canned tunes don't ya know
no cd no mp3
'cause we hear music wherever we go
& go
& go & I wish everyone did
givin' is livin' all the way thru to true
so I've eaten my meat & finished my beer
and on my way toward gittin' outta here

yer doin' just fine mingo
on a roll
blue ballin'
thru the prime
music the up above
the car pointed to the land
of just because
me sittin' in a coffee house
listening to john coltrane
after a fresh summer shower
man o man did it rain
and a beauty knocked
@ my door
lookin' for a dryer
and a trip to the land of
nevermore.........

the pipe is still breathing
and I ain't teasing either
all those nasty words were cuz
Carlin couldn't get it up neither

but he was a clown, an exotic dancer
he asked the questions and told you the answer
we're both stand-up guys
"These words don't make me a poet, these Eyes make me a poet."
