One Night

Post by saw »

one night I tried to catch
the monsters in my head,
but they were more elusive
than I anticipated,
and I was drinking so fast
the bartender said, "slow down
and let it hit you", but I belted
down the scotch and broke
the cheap snifter with my teeth,
chewing the glass til blood
ran from the corner of my mouth,
blotting the flow with cocktail napkins,
and the red was the most vivid
part of my day, so I swallowed
the shards to cut a pathway
to my heart, slicing open
the blocked passageways
and clearing all the channels
that lead to peace and happiness....
and the gremlins scurried like roaches
to someone else's head.
the death of empathy is the birth of barbarism

"slow down and let it hit you" - hey, as a piece of advice, that statement packs sand, saw, thanks for all that and lets raise a glass to all the elusive monsters in our heads. Salute!
Doll, you may have found a place of rest but I'm still on the trail.

Saw this paints a scene lucid and vivid as an electric dream. Well done.
