the painting started out as maybe i'll just paint whatever comes to mind, which was circles...lots of it. and i wrote the poem around the same time, but didn't link the two until my mind made the connection between the page full of circles (how very curious...what the hell is all this?) and the words like whirlwinds circling in my mind. so, no, it's not the first write, but it was a very curious thing...haha
