My Better Life

Post by saw »

Kaare is grilling the pork
in the summer kitchen,
the Spanish red wine breathes
with the Nidaros Cathedral Boys Choir
singly sweetly from our flat screen,
and I must confess I am thinking
about you, our time together
in America, how adaptable you were,
how creative, how funny.
Kaare is the vice-president
of the Trondheim Bank, he doesn't
make rice pudding with almonds,
is indifferent to candlelight, scents
of musk, honey vanilla, patchouli.
What a dope I was criticizing
your decorating traditions, making
you feel like being an artist isn't
a life's work.
Kaare and I just returned from Tallinn,
Estonia, drinking, dining, buying linens.
Kaare doesn't give me shivers
when he pulls me close, my knees
never buckle, he will be the top dog
one day at the bank, he doesn't
fool around, doesn't know how to
be silly.... he takes his life seriously.

Lush life of privilege,
hovering in emptiness.
In real life, not worth it.
The way this is portrayed here,
priceless.
Really really good writing Saw.....
