When Johnny Hodges hits the sweet notes
and Ella scats How High the Moon
I always am thinking of
you.

listen to those stars wouldja?
night white owls slither between the meteors
big bass dissonance
humming minerals to bed
how many Miles?
how funk was Monk
question for the big one on the dance floor
how many feet in a 12 bar blues
so minor, this point
but it's mainlining my day
sweeping up the sage smudge
mixin the gruel for the fool next door
as another star crashes into the night

walking along the strings
sliding, bending beneath limbo
entering that non-gravitational pull
and feeling the sway
good night studio ay(t)ers
live, jive, thrive
cause tomorrow loves to hear stories about today

I miss the beat
beaten down
a refrain wafting sweet
on a summer’s night
my Buddha is coming to town
Hot July evening the stars cry
me and my Buddha getting down
come 2005 Buddy Guy
plays to pay his dues
and I’ll pray to lost notes
and whippoorwill quotes
from a blues man’s guitar
wishing upon a summer’s star.

Cold and waiting for enlightenment,
the seeker reads the sacred texts.
Gate gate paragate parasamgate bodhi svaha!
The form of emptiness does not warm
his heart, the sutra only goes to mind.
A crow caws, brutal to the ears,
resounds deep in the cavities of
his heart, and he is warned.
He puts down the sutra
does a dance to warm himself,
celebrates the joy of embodiment,
and lights a fire, using the sutra
as kindling, just so many words.

Cold enlightenment,
the sacred texts bled
dry of its sacraments
Gate paragate Watergate
fate to hesitate
lost in the sound
of emptiness does not warm
but a crow caw, brutal to the ears,
resounds deep in the cavities of
his heart, and he relishes the sound
Rough raw screaming blues
dropped into heavy metal rhythms.
He puts down the sutra
does a dance to warm himself,
celebrates the joy of embodiment,
and lights a fire, using the sutra
as kindling, just so many words
reworded in the darc-ness of “C”
hope you don't mind balsa

I believe
Miles Davis walked
into the studio
and recorded 'So What'
in one take. It took him exactly
as long to record it as it does to
listen to it. So what
does that mean?
I believe
in jazz born
from the gut,
spontaneous but
performed like
a new morning
remembered.
I believe
all sacred texts and songs
are based on scales
which incorporate minor
diminished sevenths,
seven being the perfection
of both rhythmn and note,
word and syllable.
I believe
in Miles – miles
of mystery, miles
of basslines which take
me to a bridge, miles
of uncovering a fake
book and the look of an
inquisitive child.
I believe
I no not know what to
believe or what anything
means, including this.
(welcome, iblieve! great to see you here!)

Words of wisdom from doreen
spoken from a poetic dream.
Good to see you here my friend
writing in key again and again.

Miles was a pro
made rivers of notes flow
then there was Stevie Ray seldom played slow
rhythm and blues in our souls.
Thanks Doreen for the welcome good to be here.

7 Thousand Miles Away

I have walked
through fields
of summers, springs,
flirted with wisdom
and reckonings,
dandilion chains
in a necklace like
little truths
strung
loose,
not tight.
I've never known
what love may bring.
Once I bought myself
a wedding ring,
smart enough to
realize,
each day until
the day I die,
it would be my
eyes I'd see
in mirrors looking
back at me.
I sleep with myself
every night, and
wrong or right,
I never ration
knowledge, ideas
or even
passion.
Lights come on
since Edison
had illumination
in mind.
What someone thinks
can become what someone
will design.
Even when not,
we're always alone,
a design for which
I am not responsible.
This is a truth
I'll never bemoan,
though it's also true
anything's possible.

Anything’s possible or its all a lie
love was a myth ,an alibi
a reason to try again and again
a reason to commit the same sin.
In darkness I came to believe
to love was to grieve
then one day love bite me in the ***
sent me to the head of the class
sipping dandylion’s wine
in September going to make her mine
( and I’m to be hers)
and she concurs
love is alive and well
so my dear this story I tell
so you will never give up
in time we all drink from love’s cup

spooky outer space connectiveness
i touch a voice
as close as a piano key
open me, sweet sesame
a click, a pitch
we're words submerged
we breathe the same fluids
you, me and us
didja notice
birds fly silent
while we pulse in synchronized volition

Lightning Rod said to me... "doreen peri,
I think we should wed. Yes, let us marry!"
I answered, "Well, that is very kind!
You mean I be yours and you be mine?"
And he replied, "Yes, of course!
Whaddya say? Things could be worse!"
But I told him, first, I need a divorce!
You see, as I said, I am married to me
for it seems like forever and a day!
He said, "Well, let's just commit adultery!"
And so I said, "OK"
lol
Congrats to you and dandy!
This is happy news!
When love is True Love, it comes in handy...
And truly, you just can't lose!
glad you liked the spoken word... thanks to judih for allowing us to record her piece....

I and me forever and a day
no way
I could live with myself that long
alone.
You guys rock and this is fun
writing poetry freely as it comes.
Something new for me
but now I must spend some time with dandy.
Goodnight all
mabe tomorrow if the muse does call.

wedding bells?
all hells gonna break loose
what to wear?
undue knots
unravel
i'm a mess!
quick mri! first aid!
i've got till september to be respectable!
meanwhile in fields of yellow dandylions
one more belief wraps love with a kiss
