she sang the long black veil for me
I am long gone and she remains
u r still a kid giving it all away

You're like,
really like
my neck
when I only just
take the scarf away.

There is winter
and there is my neck
wrapped snug
and snow is all around,
and snow.

I take it off
and there you are,
being just like that.

I have a fear that you'll practically
disappear on me,
then
I'll not much recover.
Not much smile the way that we do that,
do that smiling on to the other.

If I was the crazy cat lady,
like some women are the crazy cat ladies
and they have them cats in the rafters,
in the car stretched across the steering,
paying their bills for them
and the mailmen of crazy cat lady street addresses
are frightened,
have them in the tea cups before the solitaire,
in the floor lamps
peering behind the shades
batting at the pull-string,
if they even have them in their underwear
and nobody,
just nobody ever knows why there are so many cats
to be looking after, though why she's
looking after them...

if I were her
then I would introduce you to all of them,
because I wouldn't want you to not know
my cat friends or them
to not know of you.

But, I'm not a very good crazy cat lady,
I don't even have the one cat
to get it started on.
