patriarchs have powerful handshakes
balance of the earth requires female wisdom
in proportions equal to machismo

mama earth knows this
but she cannot do it alone
the rain forest's tears are nearly dried up

how will we help our mother
when will we begin to call it by its name
spousal abuse

hot chamomile tea
the honey moves as slowly
as my old bones

the geese are one gray
the sky is yet another
their lack of color is vibrant

from mud to heaven
the ignorant open eyes
discover rainbows

the absence of color
does not make my world drab
it makes me pay more attention

these are my enviro-ku's
with a few little life-before-the-flood
comments along the way

the temps are up
the leaves are down
and I'm somewhere in the middle

never seen so many leaves
still on the trees in any other year
since I've been paying attention

the links of the chains
mesh like cheap magic
I'm sorry mother

brother earth sister sun
mother does her best to protect
her children

big moon hidden
gray and drizzle atop the roof
we sing inside like no tomorrow

dig the soft lights
the colors that warm the heart
tomorrow we begin anew

lots of laughter
the good faces of nonsense
the lightness of being

the circles are agitated
no one alive can predict anything
you will see soon enough
