i've dabbled in collage
mostly driftwood and odds & ends i find
build things out of it
went thru a period in the 80's
crazy with it
a couple of those pieces wish i still had
i don't remember where they all went anymore
furnace running almost non-stop up here
12 degrees outside
january - february two most useless months
at least in this part of the woods
shit - i'm watching the boys down south
vids on catching copperheads
tell me it ain't bad
ain't felt motivated for shit

i come from a
family of
driftwood hunters
mom made lamps
out of it in 50's-60's
before we started
welding in early '70's
long road
long haul
so much creating
forgotten & gone
lots sold
out there floating
like our words
in cyber space
never solid
but there
archived in clouds
legions of writers
& visualists
an artistic revolution
coming to a lull
everthing based on
pop culture & so called fame

branch knot came out of a hemlock tree probably -
i lust after those things
got a box full of them somewhere
i been known to tear into a a hemlock deadfall for them
but they are best as here -
been floating in the water to get all smoothed out
then get thrown up on the shore to bake in sun for years
hell yeah mongolia
you'd have a ball up on the lake ontario shore line
never ending supply of driftwood
only place that compares to it
is the seacoasts
i know where all the good pickin's is at
and when i got into kayaking
i realized i could get to good spots without trespassing
just go stealth by water to spots that don't get touched
i've put so much driftwood in & on my kayak
that i look like a floating fucking duck blind
or some kind of prehistoric water monster on my way back to the jeep
kayak turns you from just pickin'
to full on hunter - i have too much fun sometimes ya know

i have the notion sometimes that poetry
fell out of sync with its roots
lost its touch with life

to what is going on around me

it's that sound captures my imagination these days -
there is no word for that sound
