my good boy
sleeps blissfully through
the neighbors' fireworks

(I occasionally bump into a professional dogwalker while hiking Birch Hill, and once fell in love with one of her charges, an old rotweiller. Then one day he wasn't with her. I asked why. She said her neighbors had been setting of fireworks that so frightened the dog that he'd leaped the railing of a 2nd story porch. He survived the fall, but broke his back, & had to be put down because of his age. RIP, old boy....)
