each moment in the spotlight
bursting with meaning

veil of disbelief
denial firmly in place
as birds signal dawn

still traveling the spaceways
genes of a warrior

the same as I am
we are symbiotic neighbors

centimetre forward
passing buzz of flies and bees
into the new day

slip over to the hospital
looking for a personal sunrise

distant cough on path
my instinctive reach for mask
too late i exhale

more uncertainty
but this moment has arrived
here to welcome it

body pleads for sleep
then rejoices with coffee
then pleads for sleep

retreat state of mind
annual pilgrimage within
without the bus route

cracked egg
like my rib cage
breakfast and a walk

back to distant booms
morning headlines deja vu
all senses alert

We hear 'booms' all the time. Usually the message is that it's from Egypt (which is a sneeze away) active in Gaza (which is 1/2 sneeze away). But last night, it was Gazans targeting Israel and then Israel working the Iron Dome to neutralize the rocket attack. Deja vu, indeed. Never very far away.
