seems like you wait,
the very last minute....
I send you a text
it's a question that requires an answer
'bout getting together later,
so it's important
you respond in a timely fashion
but, no reply, comes like an old Beatles song
Then I know you are searching
the internet
getting the buzz of possibility
'cause you sure as hell wouldn't want to miss out
on a, to-die-for event, by saying, Yes
you'd like to see me
I understand....
I'm not on the top of any of your lists

i'm gonna throw
the turkey carcass
in the river
time moves on
all my poems
are in my head
to turn them into words
would be to subject them
to utter corruption

back to where
it all began
~~~~~~~~~~~
endless boogie
i remember running
up a hill
like i was a
roman soldier
in another life
back when cuba
was a missle crisis
a time when back yards
were labyrinths
of mystery
dogs didnt bite
they came to lick ya
pickles in a barrel
fresh in the grocery store
cows were grazing on
the border of s.e. d.c.
and little fish swam in
the creek, a time when
you sat on the hill
counting out of state
license plates
imagine it in all its majesty
its simplicity
on the edge of nevermore
alternative xmas tree up
made from PVC pipe spray painted green
little purple LED lights
and a star that changes colors every few seconds
my daughter and I made few years back
branches bolted to stalks
like the Eiffel tower
three quarter inch plywood base
also painted green, sits
on an old steamer trunk, nearly
touches the ceiling....the wood stove
makes it all seem natural
no fire hazard, glowing mauve
reflections on the wall, hot toddy
in hand, Ahmad Jamel on the box
tickling the ivory and ebony of my heart
saw him at the Cellar Door in DC
on my 28th birthday, not all Muslims
are dangerous, that only happens
on Fox News, Christmas is a state of mind
the warm glow of friends and family, music
we all know we should feel this way more often
but are too tired chasing the buck, so we
only do it once a year, and I ain't religious
but I'm very spiritual, I'm a loving heathen
not opposed to folks celebrating anyway they want
I like plastic pipe and purple, jazz instead of jingle bells
I like sipping bourbon and staring at the wall
I like inhaling Blue Dreams, wondering
what peace looks like
