Here's how I interpreted it...
the cracked prophet ate the bees because he might not have the time to wait for the honey to come, so he's hoping to get something while he can.

As far as not having what you need to do what you need, (want, or are inclined to do)..this is certainly a trueism for many, like a poet with no pen or paper..reminds me of the time long ago, I mean a long time ago, I think I was 15 or so, I was in juvy for a week for running away from home, and there was no paper, no pens, no books, just religious magazines to read...so I took off my "detention" pants, and used the zipper to write poetry on the walls...it worked! But I of course got in trouble for "vandalism" and had to stay two extra days and was considered dangerous if not cracked.
