this is a measely short stretch of desert
from the south end of the gaza

then we can have peace
and a change inside of gaza

The U.S. has promised to supply detection and surveillance equipment, as well as logistical help and training to Israel, Egypt and other nations in the region. The equipment and training would be used to monitor Gaza's land and sea borders.

Some EU nations, notably Germany, have promised to help Israel stop the arms smuggling. The issue will likely be debated at a regular EU foreign ministers meeting scheduled next Monday.

Most of the smuggling was carried out through tunnels underneath the 8-mile (15 kilometer) border between Egypt and Gaza Egypt has proved unable or unwilling to halt the flow of weapons and medium-range rockets coming through the tunnels, alongside fuel and consumer goods.

During its offensive, Israel said it destroyed most of the hundreds of tunnels in repeated bombing runs by Israeli jets. But Wednesday, smuggling was under way again.
AP Television News footage showed Palestinian smugglers Wednesday filling a fuel truck with petrol that came through a cross-border tunnel from Egypt. The footage also showed workers busy clearing blocked tunnels and bulldozers carrying out other repairs.

Iran has rejected the international attempt to deny Hamas weapons. In statements reported Wednesday on the Web site of Iranian state TV, Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said because Israel is so well-armed, Palestinians shouldn't be barred from obtaining weapons.

there was a low intensity pseudo cease-fire for years, i think, with hamass launching out a slow irregular stream of qassams and with israel launching a slow irregular stream of airstrikes, interspersed with n occasional assassination war party

but anyhow if israel "lifted the seige", which was before the war started, then "the seige" must refer to the lockdown on the borders of gaza except for the now confirmed 8 mile or 15 kilometers stretch of desert betwixt egypt, tunnels up and running once again

so if my reasoning is correct, then the amounts of contraband coming thru
would be much higher
unless the ham ass leader hisself is referring to the borders with israel that are waiting to deliver UN relief supplies and allow the palestinian wounded out for israeli medical care, or wait, that is after the war, eh? the Ham Ass is calling it a turning point for Palestinian victory.

letter i wrote to The Nation on-line today in response to an article
winning and losing in Gaza

"I have been following the Israeli war into Gaza closely. I opposed the Iraq War and was an in-service war resister and active protester with Vietnam Veterans Against the War. I saw excess in the war onto Panama City, where many civilians were killed; I was aghast at the killing of the Iraqi soldiers after they were routed out of Kuwait and the bombing of Baghdad, although I did support removing Iraq from Kuwait.

I do support the anti-Taliban and anti-AlQaida War in Afghanistan, and the Israeli suppression of Hamas' Qassam rockets in Gaza.

There seems to be no middle ground between a cease fire and all out war. Hamas' vision is to create an inhuman situation so dire as to inflame the entire world against Israel. Why can not Egypt blockade the 8 mile desert border with Gaza, to prevent smuggled contraband? What other option does Israel have?

The controversial wall that Israel built stopped the suicide bombers. Now West Bank Palestinians have to consider other options, so they keep on living. The Palestinian Authority is their best hope for peace and an emergence into progress, improved living standards. If they begin making rockets inside the West Bank through a Hamas insurgency, more suffering will happen to them.

Israel is a renaissance state and the Israeli people are a spartan martial people, like the North Vietnamese. They will not be denied. I am supporting Israel as the best hope for progress and sanity in the Middle East. A dysfunctional Hamas in power in Palestine is not acceptable."

well it got posted via web
an i got th rag in hand

so there's no real change
hamass claims a victory
more smuggling of missile parts into gaza
terrible suffering and grief

israel is as stuck as is gaza
unable to lift sanctions
or block the rearming of hamass
some would urge sanctions against israel
which would supposedly open up their approach to hamass
however it would not work
because hamass will not change, evolve
but will continue to take advantage of any opportunity
to re-arm and stay in power in gaza

hamass is desperate for validation
nevermind the tragedy that befalls the people
and a weakened israeli approach will only fuel more violence and power over the people of gaza by hamass, not unlike what happenned in germany when the good german people voted in adolph h hitler and then the nazis took over
in gaza whwen hamass won the election
they booted out everyone in thhe government who was not a ham ass
operative
and now the security apparatus is dangerous and mobile
while real security within gaza is non existent
just the ham ass patrols to control the people
i guess

one letter writer said that the IDF israeli defense force should commandeer the southern border between egypt annd gaza
which as he said would result in fewer gazan casualties
and more IDF casualties. but i agree
why not?
these horrible attacka upon the neighboors should not happen again
if possible
in lebanon the IDF should fight hezbollah directly in the south of Lebanon
not bomb the whole country
and israel needs to lockdown the flow of contraband thru egypt
as they couod do a better job of it than egypt

well first i read the counterpunch by marcos

it's true that young gazans are isolated and witness to the air attacks
and want israel destroyed and suggest war in perpetuity forever

israel should avoid another air barrage if possible
and again work to stop the influx of contraband into gaza

hamass is stealing un relief supplies

these people can be turned
towards a more rational solution
