the family gathers
lakeside
to watch the moon
slide past the sun
from a table piled high
with salads
and fruit
and beverage
and laughter
we don cardboard glasses
like we're watching
some kitschy 1950s
3D horror flick
then some kids
from another table
wander over
to see what we see
the dragon
taking a bite out of the sun
we don't bang drums
we don't wail with alarm
but still
some primal instinct
brings us together
and we draw closer
in the waning light

what a day
eclipse blitz
admen cashing in
on the other side
a true phenomenon
for all to see thru black glass
I went to the woods
brand new path
plan was to walk as far as I could until
230pm....then stop and sit
listen to the running water
the avian symphony
and I did....and what a place
I landed in...a real looker she was
mother nature kissed me
on the mouth and the neck
and seduced me
and the moon stood in front
for a few minutes
and the sun was okay with that

eclipse but a memory
old news
at jojo's Friday night
I think....lol
days run together
when your retired
it's sinking in
time to write and wire it up
cozy spot at jojo's in the corner
comfort zone
drum pounding out the beat
jammin
never slamming
getting to be a term from the past
knew it wouldn't last
like some spell that was cast
to make people compete
ugh!.......

potluck by the lake
met so many neighbors
I've never even seen before
young and old, kids and guitars
sun going down, crescent moon ascending
newcastle ale in the wheelbarrow
dish after dish lined up to tease
and homemade peach cake
and almond biscotti and mangoes
laughter and stories, some folks
living in their childhood home
parents long gone, some new families
one young family beautifully managed
to handle and interact with 3 kids under 5
they were like zen masters, never panicked
always diverted the potential meltdown
with sleight of hand , distraction and they
stayed til the very end....they really wanted to know
their neighbors, five voices singing sweetly..
" You can't always get what you want,
but if you try some time you just might find................
you get what you need. "

3-mile hike, then...
sacramental breakfast

..dash of chili sauce
..thin-sliced ham
..bit of cheese
..tomato
..into the broiler, then...
..poached egg
..fresh-brewed coffee
..and YouTube...
..maybe Nova
..maybe Numberphile
..maybe blackpenredpen
..or maybe bushcraft...

China reading, zen baggage
on the kindle, red pine/bill porter
sleeping in 3 hour stretches
ok by me.....

new cuppa hot water
new smoothie (chia, flax, walnuts, almonds, banana, peach, water - soaked overnight, then blended) (and delicious)
espresso

poetry, news, inspiring clips, dash of headlines
exercise
shower
meditation
bike my way (yay) to work (school's back on - boo)
greet faces - wish them health and luck
change shirt, wash face (sweaty situation travelling through desert morning)
find cover from sun
work, collaborate, share, prepare
smile
bike way home (yay!)
peanut fields
avoid semi-trailers taking dusty shortcut
arrive

all this in my predicted day -
shall we see?

ob-gyn...then
sonogram, then
biopsy, then
wait
today post -op
I drive her
sit in waiting room
no malignancy !
then
breakfast
one world cafe
best meal I ever had

oplniated
discriminated
assimilated the beat goes on
China different than Japan
basho way different than Shiki
20th century so different from 15th
ryokan loved to play ball with the kids
and hide and seek

so loud and opinionated across from
me at the bar
the other listens to the espouser silently
observation at the bar
they get the check
next couple up, take a seat...yahoo!!!
