hurricane nate

breathing its last
a little rain

power flickered just enough
to crash the computer
and reset the clocks to 12:00
too wet to hike

dog and I getting cabin fever
and it's only been a day
end of the week
looks like october returns
cool and dry
that's when I
come alive

digging post holes today
three feet deep in some places
plunge down, close the jaws
up comes the earth, again and again
probably should have rented an auger
but it's loud and gassy and a beast
so the tortoise in me is okay with
a little at a time, no need to race
to the bottom

at last the sun!
been nearly a week
since shadows had edges
water drops on the leaves
gleam
like diamonds
only far more precious -
their beauty
can't be owned....
the dog pauses again
to look up the hickory
in front of Bill's house
he saw a squirrel there
last week
and remembers.....
so intent is he
on chasing down the rodent
that he never sees
the flock of wild turkeys
in the field
not 100 feet off
"silly dog" I laugh
and we continue up the hill

The sand spoke of eons of time
Wisdom looks down upon the valley
Mountain's smiling as people get up and moving

The sweetness of birds singing in my yard
No cats
We are happy together
The - dog- the birds - and bird feeder
Sun just coming up
Releasing the past
Butterfly wings of passion
Coming from my hands and heart
Thank goodness for a brand new start

a cold october morn

no cargo shorts - jeans...

frost on Lamduan's windshield
and on the grass in Bill's field
the rising sun barely warm
as it trickles through the trees
whose foliage has yet
to drop
the dog stops to pee
I wave to the schoolbus
Bruce's motorbike still in the shed
but the truck's gone -
prolly up ta Flip Side for breakfast

Timonium Race Track
blew my mind and gave me hope
with that kind of imagination
we can do anything...but beyond that
artists keep making art
as if they believe the world will go on
and that there is still beauty and style
and purpose and love
they pushed me over the edge of numbness
back to the place I belong,
making things
gonna go back today, want to see it all

For a day in early December
Slowly but surely amassing a
Collection of wired ones
Saw a band from b'more or
Rather 2 bands quiet good
And jazzy,the sax player was
Incredible both on tenor and
Baritone .....this was after
The film fest.
