tropical jam....

a hot day here in the woods
house shut up tight
clinging to what little cool
the night brought

oppressive
but it's gotta be worse in town
where houses lie naked to the sky
and black asphalt inhales the heat
to breathe out at night
iike a burner on the stove
glowing (infra)red
maintaining the rolling boil

fried eggs on sidewalk
roasted arms exposed to sun
water, my best friend

callin for 97 today
forget the heat index on top of that
baltimore is famous for its humidity
I watered the garden early, plant jam
the birds were diggin' it
one little bird flew into my little blue spruce
I aimed the hose up into the high branches
and the water dripped down on him
his own little private shower. birdie jam
shower jam....then I fed them all some seeds
man nothing like breakfast and a shower to start your day
many creatures on this earth like the same things
we jam the same ways at times
I sure wish I could fly though

mind is slow
I stare at things
not knowing why
cognition is thick
like blackstrap molasses
I am thick
like a 2 by 4, rigid
some mornings are this way
plenty of sleep
yet board-like, mind not flexible
not spry
today I will muddle through
'cause my jam ain't jammin'
I can barely type these simple words
and so, now I have documented my malaise
and I will know on this day
I was a slug

lo, behold the lackadaisical slug
as if all the time in the world
trails from door to corridor
male or female, i know not
why s/he chooses my floor

I wonder how long the perpetual jam will go on
all of here now will be gone one day, will a new administrator
grab the reins and lead the jam into the coming decades
well.....who knows ?

He was staring back at me this morning while I was flossing!

I lurk here just about every day, but I'm in kind of a fallow period at the moment - been doing more audio than writing. That's how it goes sometimes - my inclinations seem to vary cyclically, like the seasons....

for we cannot NOT jam
just reach into that bag of words
clutched by the dura matter
grab them by the handful
and sprinkle them about
scatter them
like colors on a Jackson Pollack canvas
rhyme them if you like

link them semantically if you like

other worlds
jam on, poets...

oh wireman of the stars
what say ye
color my canvas with the knowledge
of beyond....
sprinkle wisdom like salt
on my popcorn,
let me ingest a kernel of truth...
whisper secrets in my ear
that esoteric astral projection
that has a calming effect
i need that from time to time...
blow like a mighty wind
full of raspberry jam,
with a nice cup of peppermint tea
to wash it all down

tap tap the syllables
laptop in the cosmic cafe
inspiration from spoons against cups
laughter to impossible street sounds
transformation of what is to directions beyond
wireman jam, perpetual

oh, wireman of the stars
we need help
the anti-masker, anti-vaxxer crowd
is gonna get us all killed
imagine dying from stupidity
einstein said it well.... the difference
between genius and stupidity
is that there is a limit to genius
oh man wireman I'm glad you don't have to
deal with this mess, with your health problems
and likely unemployment
just watch us over us, that's all
send some common sense to earth

Darwin will prevail
the conspiratards will eventually
stupid themselves right out of existence
nature's way
of flushing out the gene pool
thinning the herd
oh, they'll take some of us with them
collateral damage
but it's a numbers game
for every one of us
three of them
(maybe)
it's my hope
my prayer
that the last man standing
will be the one
wearing a mask

to mask amongst the maskless
to fight the unbeatable foe
each hero counts
