Debra Hegerle is .... guess who?... whimsicaldeb! Yep! She sent me some photos so I made a few banners from them. This one was a sign at a jazz club. He's a cool lookin moon dude... cropped it close so you can't see that he's really a moon, but he is! He's the man in the moon blowin' some black sax notes! mmmmm... I love dat jazz! Thanks for commenting, jack! and thanks to Deb for the photos! I'll rotate them in and document them soon.

I got perimeters the other day. Still have not opened it. Kind of saving it for a rainy day. Today in the seventies with plenty of sunshine. This might be the day.

I didn't make a Christmas banner but I made a Channukah banner and put it up today, plus I listened to an NPR show today where they talked about all the different spellings of Hanukkah .... the Festival of Lights... and how the different spellings in English are attempts to spell it phonetically using the English language instead of Hebrew. Interesting show!

I was just wondering why the Menorah has 9 candles if the festival is 7 days... I thought one candle was lit every night ...

Can anyone explain? judih?

hi doreen, sorry i didn't drop by to explain the question about the 9 candles of the Chanukah menorah.

First, the sand dune banner is phenomenal and the placement of the shading in relation to the top menu is brilliant.

okay - candles.

Chanukah is 8 days. When the Macabees ( a family of hebrews) drove out the invading Greek-Syrian army, they wanted to restore the temple which had been ransacked. They needed to re-light the eternal light over the Ark (where the torah is stored - the torah is the holy bible or the 5 books of Moses). They found a tiny amount of oil, but for 8 days the oil held out. (a miracle)

So, 8 days = 8 candles. The 9th candle is called the Shamash and is used to light the other candles. It has a place on its own in the traditional Menorah or Hanukiah.

And that's the scoop.

Yes Wireman, this thread is one of the better ones. Even though I write a bit my present passion lies with photography and when Doreen picks one of my photos it feels like winning a contest. I also enjoy most everything she uses as banners and the style in which she uses them. As great as Studio 8 is it could stand on it's banners alone. My thanks goes out to Doreen and the wonderful job she does for us.

It's been a while since I visited Studio 8, and I gotta tell you, right off the bat I'm impressed with the photography & art. I don't even know where to begin talking about it!
