Spread around something nice
Life is short and the river is wide,
We'll paradise on the other side.
Wish the world well as it can be

for I, I am moonkissed
tousled in the night
made lights to see in the dark
and she, she is sunkissed
her skin's ray
more to his liking--
that's California on women.

There's room for the sunkissed and moonkissed,
There's room for the crippled and the lame,
There's room for the sane and the insane...
Yes, the weak must pray for the strong,

rum, you say?
hot rum toddy?
fragrant wine near a hearth
all the seasonal associations
fly into focus

while here in the desert
wise men on strike
star followers lose compass

fanatics chase down bank accounts
borders grow barbed wire
better to talk to santa

better to wish for peace
in mad drunken frenzies
power house of solstice sounds

Bankers run for cover
Interest is throwing bombs
I borrowed my life yesterday
The collection agent runs in mad circles
The stock brokers count their fingers
While moby dick eats a nuclear sub
Jesus the Buddha and Allah play poker in the grove
The Innuit makes love to the Apache
And all the while....

Wrote this while listening to Desolation Row......

...and all the while the birds dance
around my feeder,
maybe do a little hop-footed prance
they don't know from Christmas
all they care to know
is of the seeds in the snow
little gifts for everyone
and Hawk is elsewhere.
