Kids Game

why bother
connecting the dots
the clues on the page
have given us the image
in our minds, no need
to draw the lines between them,

we pretend to not know
take the necessary time to hunt
for the next number
go through the motions
the suspense less than thrilling
the rote calisthenics of children

and now the last stroke
and the truth shows
it's completed face,
the face we knew would be there
the face we knew
all along.
