pet peeves

my dog has his very own Bark-o-Lounger
my cats bask in purr-fect sunny autonomy
the birds have a real tweet, well stocked condo
my fish swim in pampered filtered waters
the bearded dragon lies on a hot peaceful rock
the box turtles are masters of burying their problems
myself ?......well, I identify with the gerbil, the hamster
and the white rat, I live in a borrowed cage, spinning
my ferris wheel to nowhere, stuck on a rotating
treadmill of frustration.........just for the exercise
the death of empathy is the birth of barbarism
