So why’s it gotta be so hard to blow
away? I see the gutters full of dance—
of trash that trembles in advance of wind—
and all I wanna do is tumble in
and stumble out, like tumbleweeds that turn
about, and stomp my feet and stand and shout:
God damn it!—damn it all, God! Damn this hell!
God, damn it! Damn it! Can’t you hear me yelling?
Sure, the wind is blowing—have no doubt—
but all I see are shaky trees: I yearn
for all their roots to break, their leaves to thin,
their trunks to fall like water and be pinned
upon the sea…. If they were me, the chance
to move by faith would be the way to go.
