The Healer

I met the healer on a battlefield.
She will kill or breathe life onto this plain,
all those breathless days of peace, or sudden
tornadoes to wipe them all out.

I met young healers back from the front,
who tried to heal the front; always a front.
Heal it with surgery, bombs or trajectories
of mind, a roll of dice either way.

I met the healer; he had something to sell.
He said I'd live forever if I paid the amount.
And the more he droned on, the more
I realized he might be right.

I was "riffin" on another poem at another place, and, well, I never quite know where that's going to lead me ...

sometime the price is too steep....but the salesmen are relentless just the same

And I wonder how far that can go. Earth is deep, but how deep is it? How far can it be drilled, probed, scraped, cut down, milked and bilked? Can its potential even be measured anymore?

good points, mnaz.....it may be too late, the irony is these are informed decisions from engineers, geologists....and still forge ahead with the destruction to turn a buck....very few in positions of power explore alternatives...live for today....roll the dice....hope they don't crap out....it saddens me
