please don't tell me what time it is,
turn off your cell phone, put it away
let our time together not be measured
every second by rhythmic audible ticking

let us rise above the newness of the age
disappear in the nowness of the moment,
that will only be here just this once....
let us not regret any missed waltzes

let us not shun the dance partners
waiting in folding chairs on the other side
of the hall...swallow my eyes
let them melt in your mouth like truffles

of chocolate, savor what I see with them,
there is no need for pieces that monitor time
eschew all spinning hands and boxy red
flickering numbers

the earth will turn with or without us, and I can see
more clearly when I focus on this very moment,
when I lose myself head over heels, helplessly
in the absence of time
