He'd skip school to hangout with jazzmen into the wee hours of the morn and get the feel for Bop.......Horace Mann prep school, where he had to take courses in order to get into Columbia U.

And then he caught that feeling in writing. He wrote in Bop, and some of his jazz scenes were amazing. A literary breakthrough. The jazzmen were looking for freedom too, and seemed to have found it. He certainly had his faults as a writer, but when he was on, he was on...
