steins of espresso mornings

cupped hands,
iced overnight water hurled
onto waiting cheeks....
little impact
on the odd face in the mirror

apparently some mornings
require more than that technique,
it seems frigid H2O has its limitations
sometimes we need handfuls of B vitamins
swallowed down with steins of espresso

some mornings our eyes
refuse to see, the fog
from the mountain of restless sleep
descends like a blanket

of confusion, i pick up a cup
and stare at it looking for clues
I know this cup is familiar to me
but why did I pick it up
