she planted a lot of purple
things deep in the garden soil, she knew
it was my favorite color

many perennials I'm seeing
for the first time, or anyone is....
including the happy bees

I've placed a saucer of water
filled with a plethora of striped marbles
so they can safely sip

doves, robins, sparrows, squirrels
also share this sacred place,
this garden sanctuary for every visitor so inclined

she is gone now
living by the bay in southern Maryland
her brother describes her as nomadic
